GMB welcomes Lancaster City Council decision to pay £100 per month honorarium to frontline staff and calls on other employers to do the same.

Well done Lancaster City Council who have decided to recognise the efforts of front line staff by paying them a £100 per month bonus during the Coronavirus pandemic says GMB

Staff including those working in waste collection, vehicle maintenance, house repairs, cleansing, customer services, building cleaning, foodbank assistance will receive the honorarium for the next 2 months at least.

GMB Regional Secretary Paul McCarthy welcomed the announcement, saying:

“This is a very welcome and very deserved payment for staff who are coming into work playing a vital role in delivering important services showing selfless dedication and commitment. Saying thank you is welcome, but isn’t always enough and this kind of payment reflects the gratitude of the general public.

We call on other employers to look at this and take similar steps to recognise the efforts of our members and other key workers across the region”.
