I wanted to share with you a letter that I am today sending to Asda's owners - the Issa brothers. The GMB is concerned that saddling Asda with more debt could prove detrimental to our members jobs and conditions. We are seeking an urgent meeting with the Issa brothers to discuss this - and the sale and leaseback of the distribution centres.

GMB union met with Local Government Employers on Wednesday 13 October 2021. We communicated the clear strength of feeling among local government, council and school workers about how disappointed and angry people are and why members have rejected the plans for pay cuts.

GMB union Members have voted to reject the 1.75% pay offer set out by the NJC employers.

GMB trade union members across Local Government, Councils and Schools have been having their say on pay and the results are in! Three quarters of GMB union members balloted (75%) have voted to reject the pay offer.

CORONAVIRUS APPEARS TO BE LESS DEADLY THREAT HOWEVER IT HAS NOT GONE AWAY

GMB union warn Corona Virus has not gone away

''We have been delighted but overstretched by the continuing demand for this training as members step up to become the backbone of this great union.''

GMB union Health & Safety officer Paul Holleran warns that the Coronavirus appears less of a deadly threat, however it has not gone away.

The Coronavirus now appears to be much less of a deadly threat thanks to the vaccination rollout. However it hasn’t gone away and people should not return to behaving as though it has.

GMB union menopause in the workplace

World Menopause Day takes place in GMB trade union regional office, Columbus Quay on Monday October 18th

World Menopause Day is October 18th and the GMB union will be holding a special event to recognise its importance. As a union we see the menopause as a daily health and safety issue which is constant for more than half of our members and are raising awareness of the impact of this condition.

Andrew Wennell from GMB union raises funds for The Brain Charity

Andrew has raised over £1,000 for The Brain Charity

GMB union disabled group chair, Andrew Wennell, raises money for The Brain Charity.

The chair of our disabled workers group Andrew Wennell got on his bike for a brilliant cause back in July.

He took part in the Liverpool -Chester cycle ride on a specially adapted tricycle as his disabilities prevent him from riding a standard two wheeled bicycle.

There was also lots of partying going on with all the bars having outside stages hosting fantastic and interesting acts.

GMB union Equalities officer, Lisa Ryan, along with the LGBT+ SHOUT group took part in Pride 2021

Salford Pink Picnic Saturday 7th August

This was the first time we had attended Salford Pride or ‘Pink Picnic’ and it had much more of a community feel rather than the large corporate money-spinners that some of the bigger Pride events have become.

GMB union H&S success at Booker Wholesale

Paul said: “This is a victory for common sense. The union team working together has done some sterling work on this issue

Successful Health & Safety challenge at Booker Wholesale in Haydock by the GMB union North West & Irish region

A guarded welcome from GMB union officials was the outcome of a grievance appeal meeting at Bookers Wholesale depot at Haydock. Moves by management to introduce new technology was challenged by the union and the appeal has now been adjourned until more work can be carried out on the safety aspects of the changes.
