GMB members strike action at Cammell Laird

GMB dispute at Cammell Lairds, Birkenhead. As you may be aware, the Company is currently looking at making nearly 300 employees redundant. I am sure I do not need to tell you that these are skilled jobs desperately needed in an increasing economy of precarious employment. Throughout the consultation period, the GMB have pressed the company on their justification for this proposal as we firmly believe this is a cynical way to bring in a further casualisation of terms & conditions.

Cammell Laird, The 290 jobs at risk represent 40% of the entire workforce

Cammell Laird are refusing to guarantee 290 jobs at their shipyard in Birkenhead, with a spokesperson saying that 'he was unable to confirm the number of potential redundancies'. Losing these jobs would be a massive loss not only for the workers at Cammell Laird and their families, but also the thousands of jobs in the supply chain and local economy reliant on this sector. Once these jobs and skills are lost, it is very difficult to rebuild capacity.

Ambulance trade union Indemnity insurance update

GMB trade union cover for members working in health care in both NHS and Private Sector. Employers providing health care have a duty of care and vicariously liable for the actions of their employees. GMB expects that any NHS authority or employer in the health and care industry would use their own liability policy to defend their employees.
