GMB trade union  Ballot on pay will open on the 1st September 2021!

GMB union pay ballot covering all workers across local government, schools, and academies that follow National Joint Council (NJC Green Book) pay, terms, and conditions across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland will shortly be open!

The GMB trade union is disappointed that the pay offer doesn't reflect the pay claim and agree the pay offer falls short of expectations. We have made strong representation to your employers for numerous months now on your behalf.

Therefore balloting will now begin on Wednesday 1st September 2021 for the '2021 Local Government and Schools Pay Award' and will run until Midday Monday the 4th of October 2021.

GMB trade union  reps will be visiting workplaces and schools to enable members to cast their vote into ballot boxes (where possible due to covid restrictions).

If you cannot take part in the workplace/school ballot you will receive an email, WhatsApp message, or paper ballot through the post to enable you to vote. If you do not receive any information about your ballot by any of these methods by Wednesday the 15th of September 2021, then please contact one of the reps ASAP so they can arrange for you to take part in this year’s pay award ballot. Contact details for the reps are listed at the bottom of this newsletter.

You will be aware from previous newsletters sent out that the employers made a pay offer of 1.5% for 2021.

GMB union asked the National Joint Council (NJC) and national employers across local government, councils and schools to join with the trade union to make a joint approach to the Westminster Government for more funding for local government pay. The employers declined to do this and made the follow full and final final offer in response to our pay claim:

2021 Government. councils and schools pay offer is as follows

With effect from 1 April 2021, an increase of 2.75% on NJC pay point 1
With effect from 1 April 2021, an increase of 1.75% on all NJC pay points 2 and above
Completion of the outstanding work of the joint Term-Time Only review group

The employers have also agreed to joint discussions on the following:

A national minimum agreement on Homeworking policies for all councils.
An agreement on a best practice national programme of mental health support for all local authorities and school staff.
A joint review of the provisions in the Green Book for maternity/paternity / shared parental/adoption leave.

The GMB trade union  expressed dismay at the opening offer of 1.5% tabled by your employers earlier this year, The employer has since considered this and increased the offer by 0.25% to 1.75%

The GMB union  will be recommending members to REJECT this pay offer.
