GMB Union will always fight tooth and nail to protect our members' jobs and their terms and conditions

GMB, the union for Asda workers, has responded to reports Walmart are to sell a controlling stake in the UK supermarket.

A joint statement by Walmart and Asda said: "Together, we are in discussions with a small number of interested parties.” [1]

Gary Carter, GMB National Officer, said:

GMB has been in contact with ASDA senior management and we will be seeking meetings in the coming days, weeks and months.

Shortly after the ASDA/Sainsbury’s merger fell through last year, Walmart confirmed they were looking at alternative options including selling shares in the ASDA business.

This is yet another unsettling and stressful time for our members at Asda - they’ve had everything thrown at them in the last couple of years.

What they now need is stability, job security and decent pay and conditions.

"GMB will always fight tooth and nail to protect our members' jobs and their terms and conditions.”
