Many MPs and councillors appear to have forgotten that they are here to serve the public. They are supposed to be Public Servants - it’s in the name - but not always in the practice.
Ann O’Byrne fits that bill and we fully believe she will make a huge difference to the way the city is run.
As one of the biggest trade unions in the UK the GMB trade union can boast a positive impact on the lives of many working people. Our campaigns on employment rights, health and safety, Public services and the need for the most robust Covid safe conditions across the country are there to be shouted about and pursued robustly.
Is it because of shortages through incompetence? We need to know why less than 8 million people out of around 56 million have been vaccinated so far.
As a trade union tied into the traditions of the labour movement and an affiliate of the Labour Party the GMB union wants to play a big part in achieving a better society.
And as the UK prepares for a festive season such has never experienced before, people are facing uncertainty about so many things, but one thing most of us want is an end to the way this country is being run.
We are fighting back as a union and are campaigning for example in Northern Ireland this week for the politicians to look at changing from provision of sandwiches to hot meals for school children in the province.

There has been a massive and welcome backlash against Tory intransigence over the issue of Free School Meals, with social media and much of the mainstream media questioning the decision to vote down a motion to provide for children in England during school holidays.
The NRG members have, on more than one occasion, suggested that the government has fallen into that fatal trap of making national decisions based on a London-centric view with London data.
There is an old Chinese curse which says:” May you live in interesting times” and it applies to all of us right now. Interesting to say the least and strange in many ways as the Coronavirus comes back in a second wave and we are also being told “by the way prepare for a No Deal Brexit”, with all the mayhem and damage that will bring. Strange things are happening every day.

Let’s be honest we could not have a worse Prime Minister and government - maybe other than Donald Trump - in charge of our future.
They are guilty of so many failings, either through incompetence or their lack of care for the majority of people in this country. Their racism is obvious. - Just look at the Home Office approach to immigration and the Windrush scandal.
