LIE TO GOVERNMENT IT IS A CRIME, THEY LIE TO US IT IS POLITICS

GMB union Politics Neil Smith regional political officer

We are currently at a major crossroads in the life of this government and the future of democracy.

If we lie to the government it’s a crime but when they Lie to us it it’s politics?

We are currently at a major crossroads in the life of this government and the future of democracy.

Telling Lies, law breaking and acting in bad faith are not good examples to offer up to society as a way to run a country. The knock on effect and the drive to the bottom is having and will continue to have serious implications for many parts of our nations and regions across the UK.

MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH IS A CLASS ISSUE NEIL SMITH GMB UNION POLITICAL OFFICER

Death is a class issue, GMB union politics

Spending on things like health and social care is much lower here than in comparable European countries. This of course would be directly responsible for deaths, as well as mental health issues and addiction problems.

Neil Smith, GMB union political officer, believes that ‘’matter of life and death is a class issue’’.

We keep hearing that the pensionable age had to be raised because we are living longer. That might be the case in wealthier parts of the UK but not for those people living in the most deprived areas - some who can expect to die seven years earlier than their richer neighbours.

WATCH US CLAPPING BUT NO PAY RISE FOR MANY OF THE HEROES

GMB union politics Carer pay

Poverty kills. It destroys people, physically and mentally, causing depression among ordinary folk just trying to live a decent life.

GMB union regional political officer, Neil Smith, says it is disgraceful that the government can ''watch us clapping, but no pay rise for many of our heroes''.

FOOD POVERTY AND TORY INADEQUACY

GMB union politics fighting food poverty

NHS trusts are reporting that around 2500 children in England have been through that trauma

Food poverty is a Tory inadequacy

There are questions flying about how the country is going to afford paying the bills triggered by the onset of the Coronavirus Pandemic. Furlough costs, spending on support for the NHS and care services and more.
But people seem to forget, we are a rich country. We are not a poor, third world country. The government can access funds through borrowing and diverting spending to meet the imminent needs of our struggling industries and services, if they choose.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NHS FROM EVERYONE AT THE GMB TRADE UNION

GMB trade union says Happy Birthday NHS

Happy birthday NHS and here’s to at least another 72 in good health.

The NHS is in the public eye like never before and we need to keep it there. This weekend when many people are celebrating the 72nd anniversary of its forming there are so many things that we need to be aware of. Obviously the Coronavirus pandemic has been and is still a major cause for concern.

POLITICAL SUPPORT BEHIND WORKPLACE DISPUTES TO PUT PRESSURE ON INTRANSIGENT EMPLOYERS FIGHTING FOR JOBS

GMB union political officer Neil Smith

In the last two years our political work has paid dividends in this region with successful campaigns to, save jobs and stop closures such as Bombardier, ABC council and Harland Wolff in Northern Ireland and Cammell Laird on Merseyside to name just a few.

It is now around 100 days since lockdown and the health and safety along with the lives of our members and the public has been the major battle for us. The aftermath in economic terms now needs to be brought into focus as we face a major new challenge. Redundancies.

In tackling the threat of cut backs by employers and government, we need to use all options to try and avoid redundancies at every opportunity.

POVERTY EXTENDS BEYOND MONEY AND INTO EDUCATION, HEALTH CARE, POLITICAL PARTICIPATION AND ADVANCEMENT OF YOUR SOCIAL ORGANISATION

GMB trade union Politics on Poverty

Parents going hungry to feed their children and food bank organisers panicking as they see a future which is only going to get worse as companies start to shed jobs.

Poverty is a health hazard. It damages people physically and mentally. It humiliates and causes major stress. Imagine the shame that not being able to feed your family properly would cause, the stress and pain of having to bear public humiliation. This wasn’t unusual, as we also heard that schools who were trying to access the vouchers couldn’t log onto the system and had to tell parents their visit to the supermarket to feed the kids was on hold again. Absolutely unacceptable way for people to be treated in this day and age, in this country.
