A number of issues were raised by members which we attempted to iron out with management, some agreements were met swiftly, however, there was still one major issue that we couldn't get agreement on in relation to the rest periods which stood at 7 hours. We consulted GMB members who made it clear to us that the rest period was not sufficient and wanted it to be extended in order to maintain work-life balance we also raised health and safety concerns not just to our members but also the residents of Knowsley.
Each year GMB remembers the workers lost, on Workers Memorial Day and this year we gathered at Bill Smith House to pay our respects to remember fallen colleagues. In 2019 we should not lose a many as 50 000 people a year to work related illness, that is just not acceptable. Every worker has the right to return home safely from work and the GMB trade union will maintain pressure on employers to keep our members safe at work.

GMB, the union for ASDA workers, has called on the supermarket giant to negotiate over contract changes affecting almost 60,000 workers.
GMB North West & Irish region is supporting the call for a walk in centre in Southport and urging members to sign the petition being organised by prospective parliamentary candidate Liz Savage.
Southport does not currently have it's own walk in centre unlike Ormskirk and Skelmersdale. As a result some people within the Sefton CCG area and West Lancashire CCG area are having to travel over 10 miles to a Walk in Centre.
