STOP BLAMING WOMEN FOR CRIMES COMMITTED AGAINST THEM

GMB union says stop blaming women

Most men are our allies and would welcome a positive move that would prevent us from being victims, calling out acts of misogyny where they see it.

Isn’t it About Time we Stopped Blaming Women for the Crimes Being Committed Against Them?

Almost all women, know a woman who has been raped or sexually assaulted but how many men know a rapist/attacker? Could this be due to the fact that many are not reported by the victim, for fear of blame?

Data from the UN shows that 97% of young women have been sexually harassed.

I BEND, A POEM READ BY GMB UNION EQUALITIES GROUP FOR INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY

GMB union regional equalities group International Women's Day

We felt this poem illustrated exactly the mood of many women, with the feelings and emotions of the poem being felt by the hundreds of thousands of women who have shouldered much of the burden.

GMB union Equalities group read a poem, I Bend by Selena Odom , for International Women’s Day.

As we celebrate International Womens Day, the womens network looked at the role women have played throughout the pandemic. We identified that it is women who are more likely to have taken on those extra caring responsibilities. Many families prior to lockdown moved vulnerable family members into their homes to form bubbles, the majority of the extra work and caring for this will have fallen on women.

In what was a packed agenda, we had some amazing women sharing their stories, their knowledge and their experiences.

GMB UNION STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH TRANS

GMB union stand in solidarity with trans

Reports suggest transphobic attacks have soared in recent years in England and Wales, trebling from 550 reported incidents to 1,650.

All over the world trans rights are under attack, countries such as Brazil and Poland have seen the election of right wing leaders with an explicitly anti LGBT agenda. Shockingly so far in 2020 at least 33 transgender or gender nonconforming people were fatally shot, or killed by other violent means because of their gender identity. The majority of these were black and Latinx transgender women. Often these stories go unreported or misreported and so the real size of the problem of violence against trans people is potentially larger globally.
