Dave Kelly and Ian Byrne, co-founders of Fans Supporting Foodbanks with Robbie Daniels, spoke at the 2019 GMB union Campaigns for Justice Conference after Paul McCarthy and Neil Smith from the GMB trade union identified the importance of the Fans Supporting Foodbanks Campaign.

They started this campaign in 2015, in response to austerity and long before Covid-19, a joint initiative between Liverpool FC and Everton FC supporters. They now account for at least a quarter of food bank donations in North Liverpool, with plans to extend into Manchester and across the Region with their mobile pantry service.

To make use of the Millennium Mobile Pantry, people need to register and for a few pounds a week, the travelling foodbank brings a selection of fresh and nutritious food. Members come along and help themselves to £20 worth of food.

Paul McCarthy (Regional Secretary) and Neil Smith (Political Officer) from the GMB union have been involved from the beginning and often come down to help, either collecting and delivering the food or helping at the Millennium Mobile Pantry. GMB union members are encouraged to support their local foodbanks if possible.
