In the UK since records were kept, more than 50,000 people have died because of exposure to hazardous substances, to chemicals and toxic working practices, including 5,000 from across the North West.

It’s no longer unusual to see a woman bus driver, firefighter or engineer turn up at your house to repair an electrical fault.

March is Women’s History Month, celebrated by GMB union Equalities Group

During the month of March we celebrated Women’s History Month with some of our regional activists taking part in various events both locally and nationally. The North West & Iish region held an International Women’s Day event, there was TUC Women’s Conference and various national intersectional womens events have also taken place.

After protracted negotiations and a week of Industrial action, GMB union have secured increases over the length of two years and a one-off payment for a pay freeze for 2020.

For 2020 - £420 (1.5%) one-off payment

GMB trade union has welcomed the news today that the Supreme Court has dismissed Asda’s appeal allowing shop workers to compare themselves to distribution workers in their ongoing Equal pay battle.

SHREWSBURY 24 WIN 50 YEAR CAMPAIGN TO OVERTURN JUSTICE

GMB union supports Shrewsbury 24 campaign for justice

Whilst it is only right that these convictions are overturned, it is a sorry day for British justice.

Ricky Tomlinson and other members of the so-called ‘Shrewsbury 24’ who were jailed for picketing nearly 50 years ago have won their bid to clear their names at the Court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal has ruled on appeals against conviction on behalf of 14 members of the "Shrewsbury 24" who were convicted for unlawful assembly, conspiracy to intimidate or affray after picketing building sites in Shrewsbury in the 1972 national builders' strike.

All-party Parliamentary Group on Coronavirus which was highly critical of the government’s handling of the pandemic

The GMB union welcomed the publishing of the recent report from the All-party Parliamentary Group on Coronavirus which was highly critical of the government’s handling of the pandemic. They listed over 70 failings and made 44 recommendations for improvement. The Health Minister has also come under fire for the shambles and non-compliance of the PPE scandal, where millions of pounds worth of contracts were given out to some companies who could be classified as his pals.
