British Gas Boss Phil Bentley will leave his job with a £13 million pay off. His salary was £681,000.00 as he raised average energy bills to £1300 per year, an increase many of us GMB Trade Union Members cannot afford! He may also get £6.7 million in shares, bonuses AND a £210,000.00 pension per year. WHY IS THIS ALLOWED??
Families who foster children face losing hundreds of pounds under changes to housing benefit that categorise bedrooms used by children in their care as "spare."
Strict rules require families to give foster children their own room. But Welfare cuts mean that families eligible for housing benefit who have room,s not occupied by members of their direct family will lose up to 25% of their money.
Paul Kenny, GMB General Secretary said, "Figures show that for workers resident in most areas in England, Wales and Northern Ireland there are more women in employment that there are men in employment. That means that equal pay for women is not just an issue of fairness but is something that directly impacts on the economic prosperity of many areas.
Politicians should no longer think of men as the breadwinner. they should consider the impact of women's wage packets and their experiences at work when they propose changes to employment policies.

A GMB member injured whilst working for a North West Council has been awarded £475,000.00 in damages after GMB solicitors fought his case. The member (who cannot be named for legal reasons) suffered severe injuries, including a fractured skull, when he had a fall at work because of poorly maintained lighting.
Unions have accused the government of making it easier to sack people after a minister announced that the period before large-scale redundancies can take place is to be cut from 90 to 45 days.
Jo Swinson, Liberal Democrat employment relations minister also announced plans to exclude fixed-term contracts from collective redundancy agreements when they reach the end of their 'natural life'. Swinson said the changes were aimed at helping workers and businesses.
