Employees at Crane Building Services in St Helens are set to take 2 days of strike action next week after pay negotiations broke down.  Workers at the site, who are mostly GMB Trade Union members, are angry after the company proposed a pay freeze until July this year with a 2% increase from then.  The company had recently announced a global increase in profits of 15%, with a £4m profit at the St Helens site alone.

The strike will commence at 10.00 pm on Monday 1st April and will last until 10.00 pm on Wednesday 3rd April.  There will also be a continuous overtime ban.

GMB Trade Union Organiser Eddie Parker said “Our members are understandably upset as the company has performed exceptionally well, both globally and locally yet they are proposing a six month pay freeze and then a paltry 2% increase from July.  We have offered to meet with the company in an effort to resolve matters, but they have responded by threatening our members with the removal of the sick pay scheme and no pay rise if they go on strike”.
