GMB MEMBERS AT JACOBS IN AINTREE TO SEEK PERMISSION FOR OFFICIAL STRIKE BALLOT IN DISPUTE OVER THREAT TO IMPOSE CHANGES TO EXISTING AGREEMENTS

Talks fail to ensure company representatives understood the depth of feeling by members about the implementation of changes without the appropriate consultations says GMB

GMB officials will seek permission from the GMB Central Executive Council

(CEC) to hold an official strike ballot for 300 GMB members at Jacobs Biscuits in Aintree in a dispute over changes to existing agreements.

The follows talks on Wednesday, 28th August between GMB representatives and the Acting Factory General Manager and HR managers.

The talks failed to make progress on the company’s wish to change long-standing agreements and to impose changes if agreement cannot be reached with union members.  See notes to editors for previous GMB press release on issues in dispute.

The CEC will deal with the matter at the next meeting on Tuesday 3rd September.

Sue Morgan, GMB Organiser said “The discussion was full and frank in an attempt to ensure that the company representatives understood the depth of feeling felt by members working on the site about the implementation of changes without the appropriate consultations.

The company reiterated its wish to continue with changes to existing agreements and unfortunately nothing was said at the meeting to instill confidence that anything will change going forward.

Regretfully this leaves us with no other option but to seek permission from the CEC to hold an industrial action ballot.”
