Thousands set to march with TUC and GMB in Manchester on 29 September

GMB North West & Irish Region
Momentum is building for the demonstration against the Tories in Manchester next Sunday 29 September. 
 
Transport is filling up from across Britain for the march during the Tory party conference, backed by the TUC. Some 14 coaches are now booked from Sheffield alone. 
 
Workers from the council, two hospitals and a bus garage are filling seven of them. 
 
The trades council has also booked three coaches and the Unison, Unite, GMBTrade Union and Napo unions are all mobilising.

North West Regional Equality Conference 2013

GMB North West & Irish Region
The above Conference will be held on Wednesday, 13 November 2013 at GMB Regional Office, in the Bill Smith Education Suite from 11.00 am to 2.30 pm.
 
As this is a motion based Conference, Branches are invited to nominate one delegate along with an equality themed motion.  The closing date for both delegates and motions is Friday, 1st November 2013, after which only emergency motions will be allowed to be submitted. Please note no motion will be accepted where there is no Branch delegate.

Ambulance Dispute over sick pay

Ambulance Service In England Face Industrial Action Caused By Employers Unlawfully Imposing Cuts In Sick Pay Of Up To 25% Ambulance crews won’t put up with a draconian cut to their sick pay which could see them being forced to work while ill to avoid losing money says GMB Trade Union.
 
GMB and other ambulance service unions at TUC congress today announced they are in dispute with the ambulance service in England and said their members were prepared to take industrial action. An emergency motion on the issue is due to be debated later at the Congress.

Hovis workers strike again: ‘Zero hours, zero crumpets!’

GMB North West & Irish Region
More than 75 Hovis workers and their supporters joined a picket line in Wigan yesterday. It marked the start of the workers’ second week-long strike against zero hours contracts.  One striker said, “When we win it'll be a catalyst for other workers.” 
 
The Bfawu union members’ first strike won permanent full time contracts for Hovis workers hired early this year on zero hours contracts.

Donna Ludford, GMB member is selected as Labour candidate

GMB North West & Irish Region

Jim Battle deputy lord mayor for Manchester has been appointed assistant police commissioner so has to vacate his councillors role.

There is a vacancy in Ancoats /Clayton ward east Manchester. Donna Ludford GMB member has been selected as the candidate for Labour and we have been out canvassing the area, the people in the picture are all Councillors Carmine Grimshaw, Mick Loughman , Pat Carney and Donna Ludford the candidate.
