GMB North West & Irish Region
13 September 2013
GMB North West and Irish recently held a fundraising day on the 9th of July to raise money for Cancer Research UK.   As part of their efforts, GMB Regional Secretary Paul Mc Carthy allowed the staff to dress down for the day...resulting in some very strange onesies walking around the Liverpool office...in 25 degree heat!   Lots of games took place, from the classic 'guess the number of sweets in the jar' to the less subtle.....lets throw buckets of gunge on people! To visit our gallery of pics from the day click here.

Colin Webster, Ross Farrington and Michael Evans participated in a Man vs Food challenge involving foot long messy meatball subs, kindly donated by Neil Hunter, manager of Subway at Brunswick.  Michael was the loser (he wants it noted he was recovering from a stomach bug) resulting in him having his legs waxed by secretary Jill Keogh who took great pleasure in making him squeal!   The girls held their own with Jenny Cleary, Rebecca McGovern and Katie Gannon racing in their onesies in post sacks around the outside of the office.  Katie was the slowest resulting in a  bucket of pink gunge over her head.  Bless!

The highlight of the day was the 'Gunge Chart'.  This was built up over a few weeks before the fun day with brave volunteers offering to be gunged for this wonderful charity.  The rest of the region then had to donate towards who they wanted to be gunged and the person with the most money allocated to their name would get slimed!  It was a close call between our GMB Senior Organiser Graham Mc Dermott and our GMB Branch Secretary, Paul Evans, but Paul won in the end with £359 donated towards him.  Paul was delighted to raise so much money and was a great sport while getting gunged...although he is in
need of a new tie!

Overall, a great day was had and the GMB raised £770 towards this wonderful cause so thank you to all involved and everyone who donated.  It should be noted that Cancer Research UK is funded entirely by the public and works tirelessly towards finding cures for over 200 types of cancer so it is very important that we continue to support them....so roll on next year.......how about a dunk tank of gunge???
