Families who foster children face losing hundreds of pounds under changes to housing benefit that categorise bedrooms used by children in their care as "spare."

Strict rules require families to give foster children their own room.  But Welfare cuts mean that families eligible for housing benefit who have room,s not occupied by members of their direct family will lose up to 25% of their money.

The main charity representing foster carers has written to ministers at the Department for Education and the Department of Work and Pensions urging action or risk thousands of foster families giving up.
