Every second Saturday in July the city of Durham is taken over by miners, trade unions and the public for the Durham Miners’ Gala, known locally as ‘The Big Meeting’. The Gala is a celebration of solidarity, of class culture, of creativity and of endeavour. Attracting 200,000 people, brass bands and marchers carrying banners parade through the streets in honour of the heritage of the workers. From the makers of Nature Of The Beast, The Big Meeting documents the past, present and future of the Durham Gala and the labour movement, following four protagonists over the course of this unique working-class occasion.
