Paul Evans, GMB Senior Officer, has passed away
16 November 2017

GMB Regional Secretary Paul McCarthy:

“Today GMB North West and Irish region says goodbye to a great friend and one of our longest serving and most dedicated activists, Paul Evans.  Paul sadly past away recently following a short illness.

Whilst many of us start to wind down following retirement, Paul did anything but as he set about increasing his activities on behalf of the members he has worked tirelessly for all his working life.

After leaving the buses in Liverpool Paul became a full time Branch Secretary, Regional Committee member and conference and campaign organiser, initially in the Old Liverpool North Wales and Irish region and then helping the transition to North West and Irish region following the merger with Lancashire.

Paul was out every day representing members in disciplinary and grievances and negotiating on their behalf to improve terms and conditions and improving health and safety standards.

Never one to duck a fight, whilst at the same time able to employ cunning and charm, Paul was never satisfied with anything but the best for his members and wouldn’t rest until he’d squeezed out out every last drop from any employer.

As well as looking after our annual congress delegation, In recent years Paul played a huge part in organising numerous conferences, particularly our Women’s Conference and Campaigns for Justice conference where Paul took great pride in helping a number of campaigns raise their profile in their fight against inequality and injustice.

Paul will be greatly missed, not just as a hard working activist, but as a thoroughly decent human being and a great personal friend.  God bless and goodnight mate rest in peace Paul”
