Welcoming the announcement that vehicles carrying blood, plasma and human organs will now be exempt from charges for crossing the Mersey Gateway in Halton, GMB Organiser Michael Evans said:
“GMB has been lobbying for some time now to extend the exemptions for emergency vehicles crossing the bridge. We have never understood why GMB members driving vehicles carrying blood and organs for transplant have been forced to take alternative routes or pay to cross the bridge when other emergency vehicles are exempt. We have been working with Derek Twigg MP, Halton Council and NHSBS to bring about these changes which clearly make sense to everyone”.
