GMB Trade Union Wins Battle For Trade Union Recognition At Ministry Of Justice Legal Aid Agency.

GMB Trade Union looks forward to developing further the professional relationship that has been built during the process of discussion and working with the other MOJ unions.

The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) has now announced it is to recognize GMB at newly formed Legal Aid Agency (LAA). This follows a period of protracted lobbying by GMB of MOJ officials to recognise the union for the right to represent members in the newly formed Legal Aid Agency.

Martin Benham, Chair of GMB Staff representatives, said “GMB is the first union in an extensive historical period to be granted recognition by MOJ. The decision marks a great achievement for GMB. The union will be joining the other recognised unions PCS, FDA and others.

This is excellent news for our members at what has been a stressful time for many. We are delighted we will be able to continue to provide the high level of representation for our members as we transfer into the MOJ. We now look forward to positive engagement with MOJ as we enter into this new and challenging relationship.”

Sharon Holder, National Officer said “This process has been far from simple. The decision to grant GMB trade Union recognition has felt at times like being in battle with the MOJ. The decision is therefore greeted with triumph.  GMB Trade Union looks forward to developing further the professional relationship that has been built during the process of discussion and working with the other MOJ unions."
