Candidate's statement - Kate Green

I am to be standing for re-election as the Labour candidate for Stretford and Urmston. Voters in Stretford and Urmston deserve an MP with the track record and experience to stand up for what's right. I have always put people in Stretford and Urmston first.

Tory policies are harming working people. They've cut tax credits, cut our public services to the bone, raised VAT and forced up the cost of living, while pay is stagnant and pensioners lose out. I've fought every one of the Tories' vicious cuts. I'm proud Labour will help families make ends meet, including introducing free school meals for primary pupils and ending hospital parking charges; we'll fund all our schools fairly, invest in skills and good apprenticeships for young people; and we will ensure your right to a decent pension when you've worked hard and contributed all your life.

As a proud trade unionist, I'll always fight Tory attacks on our rights at work. I'll continue to campaign for equal pay, maternity and paternity rights, access to employment tribunals and trade union rights. All my life, I have campaigned for equality, justice and an end to poverty. I would be honoured to be re-elected to carry on that work.
