Public sector parents hit worst by austerity drive

Parents working in the public sector will take the biggest hit to their household incomes from government cuts and stagnant wages, according to Trades Union Congress research published ahead of George Osborne's spending review this week.

Austerity Uncovered

GMB North West & Irish Region
GMB Trade Union Members and Officers volunteered to assist the North West TUC and their touring Austerity Uncovered Bus. The bus has visited Manchester,Salford and Liverpool in our Region over the last two days. The team heard compelling and heartbreaking stories from members of the public who have bourne the brunt of the Tories attack on Public Services and Benefits over the last 3 years.

Government wants schools to axe teaching assistants

GMB delegates at our GMB Trade Union’s Annual Congress last week, voted unanimously to adopt a motion calling on the union to defend Teaching Assistants from government plans to axe the profession altogether.

Cameron told to get tough on tax

GMB North West & Irish Region
Trade Unions challenged David Cameron yesterday to use next week's G8 summit to plan a radical crackdown on tax dodgers.
 
The Prime Minister has been forced to pledge to use his term as G8 president to tackle tax avoidance after probes into Google, Amazon and Starbucks uncovered their dodgy dealing.

GMB advice on NUT and NASUWT Industrial Action

The NUT and NASUWT have announced that they intend to have a programme of strike action as part of their campaign against government proposals on teachers’ pay. This action is likely to affect 20,000 schools across England and Wales, the first action will take place in the North West on the 27th June.

GMB to defend 230,000 Teaching Assistants

GMB North West & Irish Region
Teaching Assistants are not a “mums army” but education’s hidden professionals and are a vital integral part of our education system and should be recognised as such says GMB Trade Union.

Blacklisted construction workers seek compensation

GMB North West & Irish Region
The GMB Trade union is to lodge claims in the High Court for compensation on behalf of 70 construction workers whose names were discovered on a blacklist. The union says the workers had job prospects and reputations ruined, and is taking legal action on their behalf, including lodging claims of defamation.It says the initial claims are "the tip of the iceberg" and that there are some 3,000 other workers with claims.
